Mayor Troy Linnell

Mayor Troy Linnell

Mayor Linnell has lived in the area for 40 years and in Algona for nearly 15. After making a personal commitment to give back to the community, Troy ran for City Council and won in 2015. Following a second successful election, Troy served on the City Council for seven years before becoming Mayor Pro-Tem in 2021. Highlights from his time on the council include:

Collaborating with King County to finalize bringing the transfer station to Algona (including getting concessions other communities did not receive)
Working on modernizing Channel 21 so that it will be capable of broadcasting city news, events, and meetings to residents
Selecting and starting implementation of Voyent System that allows residents to opt in to receive text messages or emails from the City of Algona about breaking news (such as a water main being damaged or other information that make impact them)
Being involved in the planning of the new Community Center/City Hall
Working to update parks, including resurfacing sports courts

When she’s not accompanying him to city events or spending time with their family, Mayor Linnell’s wife, Susan, provides business and financial services through the practice she founded and operates. Their two children and five grandchildren also live in Algona, reinforcing Troy’s commitment to this community.

As Mayor, Troy is responsible for the operation of the city and he’s taken an up-close and personal approach to this process. Former Mayor Dave Hill worked with directors and City of Algona staff to institute practices to increase accountability and professionalism. Troy supports the continued and admirable efforts made by city employees, which make it possible for him to make appearances at all civic events, sit on committees and hold meetings to negotiate for Algona’s best interests in projects that require collaboration from other city, county, or state agencies, and to spend time with the citizens of Algona to ensure that the city’s efforts reflect what residents want and need.

Mayor Linnell represents Algona as an active member of several organizations, including:

Sound Cities Association (SCA)
Association of Washington Cities (AWC)
Cities and Schools Committee for Algona, Pacific, and Auburn

He also represents Algona in other ways, by being:

Chair of the Board of Governance for Valley Fire Authority
Member of the Public Issues Committee of the SCA
Involved with every public outing (Easter egg hunt, fishing derby -- look at city website)
A certified driver for the Metro community rideshare program that provides residents with customized options for getting around when bus service can't meet their needs, such as needing a wheelchair accessible bus
